why identity matters

to note - this isn’t a post about (or only about) identity in terms of whether you identify as female / non-binary / male, or about what color your skin is. this post is (also) about consciously choosing an identity that pulls you into your next ‘now’.

how you see yourself is (almost) everything.

if you’re here, i’m assuming that you’ve had a fairly recent shake-up in your life.

and when i say shake-up i’m talking about the kind of tremor that causes someone (who’s aware of their own stuff) to begin to question everything they knew before now.

so you might be questioning:

  • your day-to-day routines

  • what you’re working for

  • who’s in your life

  • decisions you’ve made in the past

  • what the hell is next

  • how you’re spending your time

  • where your life energy is going

  • who you even ARE

and i’m not much of a gambler, but if this is you, i’d be willing to bet that all these questions are disrupting a bunch of things in your life right now.

(not the least of which is your patterns, which may not be the worst thing ever… but it’s not easy, and it generally doesn’t feel super great.)

it sounds extreme if you’ve not been through this particular fire, but in times like these, your entire identity can seem like it’s totally up for grabs.

and when that happens, you’re far more likely to feel set adrift within your own life.

==

[pause: tell me this… did you finish set adrift with in memory bliss? because if you did, we’re probably kindred. 😊]

==

and when you feel unmoored within your own life, well… then it can seem like the wheels are coming off the whole damn thing.

this is why identity matters

and if you’re willing and able to be in the liminal space for the length of time it takes (which is what it is), this can be a fantastic time to choose your incoming identity.

or if not specifically choose it, to at least have some say in who you become, from a far more conscious perspective than you might otherwise.

for example…

in the years following my bio mother’s death, i did a lot of shedding of old identities. many of those identities had been practically begging to be released for a long time, but for various reasons (primarily fears) i’d not been willing and able to do it.

and then the shake-up of her passing created enough space between who i’d known myself to be and who i was becoming, that there was an opportunity to step into ‘incoming me’ from a more conscious and aware place.

this is one of the reasons i chose to begin my archetypal astrology training. it wasn’t something i’d seen myself doing AT ALL before… but suddenly there was this crack in the foundation of who i’d known myself to be, and a space opened up to see what i’d not seen before.

and here we are, with this whole new potential available now that wasn’t then; all because i was willing to bring awareness to the liminal time rather than just floating back into all that had been (as a way of going back to sleep and not dealing with the growing pains).

what about you, good human?

how are you seeing yourself these days, and how is that feeling for you? are you finding it hard to stay in the liminal space long enough for it to really work on you?

i totally get it if so, i tend to find that place excruciating.

and of course it is, right? because it’s changing you from the inside out.

you are in the process of becoming.

and i, for one, can’t wait to see what jewels you uncover.

if it would feel like a bit of scaffolding (and it very well could), come check out my notes from gramma. her tough-ish love could be just the right amount of support as you navigate your path.

i’m a little bit woo-woo and a little bit rock-n-roll, and both (all) of those parts of me come into play in my work of bringing you back to the fullest expression of who you came into this life to be. let’s dance, starlight. ✨
